Walking an alpaca around the grounds of a grade 11 listed Jacobean Manor is a unique and once in a lifetime experience according to our guests. Many have told us it seemed such a bonkers idea they had to give it a go. It is often the first question I am asked, "How did you come up with this idea?''.

Honestly, it combined all my passions and whims. I had always loved alpacas and first encountered them on a family holiday to Peru in 2014. At that stage we were living in a semi detached house on the outskirts of London, which is definitely not the environment for a herd of alpacas. We traded in our house in London for a 21 acre Manor estate (and a huge mortgage) in 2018. It has been a tremendous privilege but also a steep learning curve. For the first 3 years we focused on the main house and the gardens. Then I noticed the state of one of our fields, called the Butty which is situated in the heart of Bretforton. Our Butty was overgrown and had years of agricultural waste dumped on it.

Alapcas are amazing at keeping grass down and enjoy eating the branches of overgrown trees so it seemed a prefect excuse to persuade my husband to buy some. After an extensive training course with Victoria at Simply Alapcas, we bought our first 4 Alapcas in 2021. We were warned that they are addictive and every year I have bought another 2 so currently we have a herd of 10. We gained our license for Wychavon council to start Alapca experiences in Sept 2022 and have had been billed over by the reponse we have gained for our guests.
